Death, Rebirth and the Desert...

I first came to the desert on a cold December day. It had snowed the night before, and until I showed up, I didn’t know the desert got cold.

I was wrong.

The desert. A dry, baron place, I was told. Barely any plants can grow there; only the strongest ones.

Honestly, the desert reminded me of death. Or at least a lack of life.

I was wrong about that too.

My perspective has changed in a collage of sunsets and moonrises. With a strong wind, I was swept up into the magic that is rebirth.

Beginnings.

The desert was the backdrop to the most transformative weekend of my life. Where Keoni and I first fell in love with each other, and with music. We sang in a circle as the days passed, seemingly without time.

We danced as the sky lit up with pinks and oranges, and kissed under the brightest stars.

Unknowingly Soul Dive was born.

That gathering (Vanlife Pride) cracked me open, and watered a magical seed of creation within me. With love from the most incredible, inspirational queer humans, I began to grow.

Physically, we left the desert, but it’s magic crept through our lives, bringing us back the following year. For Soul Dive's debut.

I think that moment, that show, was the most incredible first show possible. That day, orange glowed so brightly from the sun onto us. The mountains matched, and the sky followed. We sang for love, as we always will, and orange surrounded us all.

Two years have gone by and many things have changed. But I stand here, in the desert, reflecting on its lessons.

We have travelled great lengths, physically and emotionally, to be here, Keoni and I, as Soul Dive today.

But, as the song that started it all says…

“Everything that ends will bring new life.”

A hard pill to swallow.

But here we are, seedlings once again. Trying to use the tears as water to grow this dream.

So, we welcome you to take another soul dive with us. (They never end)

As we try to make music as live and real as possible. To create as truly to ourselves as we can, and sing in the places voices are needed the most.

We hope to inspire, be inspired and share our magic with you.

And together find the most miraculous bits of life, in the most unexpected places.
